Rapid urban population growth and expansion of industrialization are factors that have resulted in indiscriminate discharging of industrial and human wastes into rivers. This publication presents guidelines on technical approaches as well as institutional, statutory, planning, administrative and regulatory approaches relevant to the protection and rehabilitation of rivers, and how to apply them.
